Your Eyes Are Playing Tricks On You

As we finish our prep to head to the PGA Show in Orlando, this week our COO and LPGA Professional Sara Sanders published this video talking to us about putting routines and also tackling a phenomenon called Parallax.

Ever read a putt perfectly from behind the hole, but when you stand over the ball your eyes play tricks and you talk yourself into something else? You are not going crazy; you are experiencing Parallax. Because our eyes are no longer level, and we are on the side, our perception of how the ball will roll changes and is complicated by one eye that is more dominant. We then tend to compensate for the new angle, and our brain tells us to adjust from our original read and then we push or pull the putt.

You can train to counteract this issue with repetition and setup tips, as well as using the Putter Key, which we have designed to help with Parallax.

The Putter Key uses science around shapes versus just lines to help our brains with more reference points and grouping. With a directional arrow and targeting circle we are essentially anchoring the line with distinct shapes, and the repeated practice will help train you to transfer your original read into your performance.

Combine this practice with tricks on setup and routine and you will see improvement in starting your putt on the correct line. Sara finds that setting the putter down behind the ball first and then placing the feet give the best chance for success. You are more likely to get your eyes over the ball properly and then set the body to match.

If you place your feet first and they are heading in the wrong direction, how are you going to aim correctly? You will have to manipulate your backstroke to start the putt on the proper line.

MORE ABOUT THE PUTTER KEY

Curious about the lightweight and portable Putter Key? It allows players to train their eyes for proper putter face alignment like centering the ball, and path on the backswing, all while utilizing the putting green in the same manner as you play, adding no time or effort to a player’s existing routine, without gimmick and aids that are static.

Let’s be honest. It’s fun to work on your swing, and it’s enthralling to watch a new tip video or get a new gadget to attach to your arm. However, the reality of golf is that around 40% of ALL your shots that make up your score are…PUTTS. And 97% of amateurs do not aim their putter correctly. High handicappers only make 50% of five footers and 20% of ten footers. Do we spend that same amount of time and energy practicing on the green, the place where most golfers could drop the most strokes?

The short answer is NO.

We need to retrain our brain to help with this issue. Boards, lasers, and aids that are on the ground in one place can only do so much to help. Yes, they can help train your movement or groove in a certain stroke, but what you really need is to train that movement and focus while PRACTICING THE SAME WAY YOU PLAY.

The patented Putter Key attaches to the top of your putter and complements the existing lines on your putter and allows you to practice freely, just like on the course.

Start the journey with us.

As we record metrics on Putter Key users, repeated use (training your eye to see the arrow back to the circle) has dramatically improved players' path, along with correcting their aim, particularly in the 3’ to 15’ range where line trumps speed and the outcome is binary. Tools like Blast Golf that offer concrete metrics like face angle and path are showing us the statistics of immediate improvement when using Putter Key.

We know you are busy. Most of us don’t have hours to spend practicing like the pros. But most of us DO spend 5-10 minutes on the green before heading to the first tee. Putter Key will help you improve with just a few minutes of use before every round.

We will see you in Orlando, come to Booth #3808. Or visit us at www.putterkey.com for more information, including custom options for tournaments and corporate gifts.
